Can War Ever Be Eradicated? Our world is inherently inconsistent; it is constructed on the eternal conflict, on constant contradictions. Knowingly there black and white, the north and the south, right and left exist. Each conflict eventually expands until the time when the person cannot supervise it any more. Frequently it also leads to revolutions, wars, intestine conflicts. Throughout all world history, the person has lived for only a few years without war, he has constantly fought for the right to exist, for the freedom, land, power etc. Together with the development of the humankind, this fight became more and more rigid. At the same time, the weapon, which gradually bore more and more destructions, also developed, which made the fight crueler. War inherently does not know any winners. To some extent, everyone in it is a looser, because each side bears an enormous amount of losses: human lives, money, and territory. The conflict of individuals is an everyday occurrence in a modern life; war covers bigger am ount of people. More often it arises because of the requirement of the person to operate, and brings much more global destructions and does not influence separate people any more, but the whole society. War, as a phenomenon, cannot be eradicated, because modern processes of globalization, development of terrorism and desire of the power promote the development of war. Modern process of globalization as process of increasing influence of various factors of the international value on the social validity in the separate countries is one of the reasons why war cannot be eradicated. (Reference) Globalization became real aspect of the modern world system, one of the most influential forces defining the further process of our civilization. Globalization process opens new possibilities, but it is also fraught with negative consequences. Globalization influences formation of potential conflicts in the conditions of a competition. Unfair distribution of the blessings creates threat of conflicts at regional, national and international levels. Globalization causes defined amount of problems. One of them is connected with a question who appears in a prize from this globalization. Most often basic part of advantages is received by the rich countries. The second problem is connected with potential regional or global instability because of interdependence of nati onal economies at world level. Local economic fluctuations or crises in one country can have regional or even global consequences. Such possibility carries not only theoretical character, and is quite real. That can be confirmed with a financial crisis in Asia, which have begun in the summer of 1997 in Thailand, and then threw on other countries of South East Asia, having reached South Korea, too. The similar phenomenon testifies the big vulnerability of the interconnected economy. World recession or depression is capable to cause appeals to break off an interconnection and the dependences created during globalization, just as it and has occurred at the time of Great depression of 1930ies in the USA. The economic conflict with a threat of transformation into economic war or even military collision can become the result. So, globalization, which is very actual nowadays, provokes conflicts between the countries, frequently even military ones. Development of the international terrorism as the certificate of violence against citizens or objects for the purpose of destabilization of a public order in the country or complication of the international relations, also does not allow eradicating war. (Reference) If in the middle of XX century the terrorism was considered as the local phenomenon, but already to the beginning of the third millennium, it has captured the most part of the world. Now there does not remain a place on the earth, where the terrorism has not got in. Terrorism acts have already taken place practically on each continent, but struggle against this terrorism cannot be won in a way of only defeating separate terrorist organizations, because everywhere in the Islamic world there are people supporting Sacred war, especially against the USA. The vivid example of it is an act of terrorism on September 11, 2001 in New York, which caused retaliatory measures of protection from the USA side. The First World War has b egun with murder of the successor of an Austro-Hungarian throne, which also can be considered as an act of terrorism. In addition, for today fears that acts of international terrorism and retaliatory measures of the states can end with one more world war are expressed more and more often. Events of the year 2006 in the Near East have shown how real the threat of the world war world war is. Though acts of terrorism have caused only the war on the local level, only between two countries, it is impossible to forget that the world community was on a hair from other counties retraction in war, Syria, Iran and the USA in the first place. In addition, proceeding from the statistical data, the quantity of acts of terrorism in 2005 exceeded the amount of 13.000. Such considerable quantity of acts of terrorism puts the world on the side of a war. That means that the international terrorism is a cause of war, but also that presence of the international terrorism means presence of constant wars . One of the main reasons for almost every war in the history of mankind were and still are a capture of territories, desire of a profit, but only this purpose has been disguised à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ under the pretext of belief, democracy etc. Each country separately thirsts for the new markets, resources, money, i.e. everyone wants to predominate over the others. Moreover, there will always be the state, which will be dissatisfied with its present position, which finally will start the conflict. Zones of economic influence of Great Britain, Japan and Russia have narrowed for last 15 years. Thus, those zones have essentially extended at the republic of South Africa and Germany. Influence of China on a state of economic affairs promptly amplifies. Zones of economic influence of the USA, Italy and France have undergone less considerable changes. Struggle for spheres of economic influence has led to the situation that on a part of territories there was a collision of economic interests at the several states at once, rivalry between which has in certain cases taken the form of a confrontation. Unfortunately, the human is greedy à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ the higher is his post, the stronger is a desire of the power. There are antidemocratic countries, such as Iran, Iraq, the North Korea in the modern world, for which the main aim is capture of territories and imposing of their opinion. Absence of democracy in the separate countries is a war cloud, one of its possible preconditions. The history knows several ethnic, international conflicts, which, in fact, were caused by motives that are more religious. In 20 century, ethnic wars started to carry more global character. Having begun with the fascism, which has proclaimed destruction of Jews and Slavs, their number increases in a geometrical progression, messages on them fill screens of TVs and the press. International divisions have also concerned outwardly safe Europe: Czechs and Slovaks, Scots and English; the Canadian Frenc h and English, Arabs and Jews. The government always had a choice. World problems could be solved peacefully, without applying physical strength, but it would mean loss of the power over the others that is unacceptable for the psychology of the person. Each competitive country wishes to own the greatest influence and the most productive way à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ war (i.e. while globalization develops, the states will choose war for achievement political, economic, etc. the purposes). Moreover, force has always been called upon because it is an ultimate method by which peoples, whether individually or in national groups, have been able to achieve their desires. Based on the set forth above it can be said that war cannot be eradicated as the processes of globalization, terrorism and humanà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s desire of power promote the occurrence of military conflicts, and as these processes are deep-rooted, war will never be eradicated.

Helping Pauline Face Her Sister Death

Like Pauline we could have told God many times you created me without my knowledge about it and will take my life at your convenience.   The statement implicates that everyone knows that humans are immortal but still many are not ready to face death.   Many are afraid to die because that is leading someone to the unknown or simply the end of non-being.   Very few accept that death as a sister or a brother that will accompany us to the next life.In the case of Pauline it will be very difficult in the beginning for an existential therapist to argue with her the meaning of life when it is the reason that aggravates Pauline’s situation.   The twenty year old woman is just finding meaning in her life and the promise of an eminent death brings all her plans to a halt. inft Adult Learning Theory Dustin Stamey Adult Learning Theory Summary Non Traditional college students make up a large percent of the total population. There are a few categories that they fall into. The first category is workers. The second category is military veterans. After years in the service, their professional education took a back seat. All they know is military service. For them, it will be really hard to acclimate into civilian life. The third category is adults that just received their GED and are now pursuing a life in higher education. It is important to provide for the adult learners so that they can thrive. M. S. Knowles said that there are four principles that characterize adult learners. â€Å"1. They are self directed, take responsibility for their own actions, and resist having information arbitrarily imposed on them. 2. They have an extensive depth of experience, which serves as a critical component in the foundation of their self identity. 3. They are ready to learn. As most adult learners return to college voluntarily, they are likely to actively engage in the learning process. 4. They are task motivated. Adult students returning to college attend for a specific goal and the primary component of their motivational drive tends to be internal† (Knowles, 1984) According to Schraw and Moshman there are three â€Å"Metacognitive Frameworks† that help people build their own learning theories. These would include Tacit, Informal, and Formal. Some of the metacognitive skills are built over time, such is the case with tacit and informal theory. These are made from educators and very repetitive jobs that do not require critical thinking. One of the biggest problems with adult learners is their gap in education. The adult has learned practical education instead of learning academic knowledge. Practical knowledge can be used in everyday tasks like at work. Academic knowledge is not. There are ways to help the individual bridge the gap and make connections between the two. For example, an introductory writing class might show differences in practical and academic. The adult learners will also need a detailed syllabus. A set of instructions are very important. Adult learners are very goal oriented and need to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Educators need to use strategies to invite the adult learner to want to learn. Using these strategies make it easier to adapt to a cognitive and critical thinking mindset. Article 2 Adult learning Theory for the Twenty-First Century Educators want to help facilitate learning. They must learn more about their students in order to do this through â€Å"embodied learning, spirituality, and narrative†. (Merriam, pg 93) Adult learning is a very complex problem and cannot be boiled down to something simple. It is forever changing. There have been many advances since Mezirows idea of transformational learning. (Merriam, pg 94) A bigger value has been placed on exactly where the education is taking place like work, home, and school. There are numerous factors that can affect each place like size, lighting, and background activities. There has been an increased attention to learning context. There finally has been an acknowledgment that learning is a â€Å"multidimensional Phenomenon†. (Merriam, pg 95) It used to be that learning was taking in facts and converting it to knowledge. Now it is said that learning involves the body, mind, spirit, and emotions. The mind (brain) changes when it is in learning mode. There is a mind body connection. There is also a connection between life experiences and mental capacity. Reflection I have read both articles completely. For the most part, I feel that they adequately describe the adult learner. There are many options that one could use to apply this to their own lives. Personally, the article Adult Learning Theory: Applications to Non-Traditional College Students really hit home. I fall into almost all of their categories. I have a full time job and even though I haven’t lost my job yet, I feel that a college education can help me further my career. From the working standpoint, repetitiveness of my daily tasks does not contribute to a higher standard of learning. I also fall into the category for veterans. I was in the Air force for 7 years. I can relate to military veterans. Most of them are deployed a long time and school is not an option. Most of them choose to wait till they get out to start school. I had to wait from 2003 till now to get started in school and the gap in education is killing me. Liberty University has a fantastic grasp on what I need personally to succeed in school. The articles touch base on starting school with the right mind set and environment. With the gap in education that I have it was important to see the correlation between beginning (starter) classes and making the connection between practical knowledge and academic knowledge. This will really help me. A detailed syllabus helps me keep track of what’s due and when I need to turn it in. I took it a step further and made a calendar of assignments and turn in dates. My wife has also been enlisted in keeping me on the right path and on time. One of the articles spoke about adults being goal oriented. This is absolutely right in my case, and is a product of my own design. I need to see an end to a means. There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel for me. The article gives the impression that goal orientation is a downside to learning and I do not agree. The second article honestly was a bad choice. There was not a lot of information on how I can improve on my adult learning. It was more of a generalization about another publication than actual facts. Having said that, we will see if there is anything that I can use The article states that adult learning is very complex. I could not agree with them more. In an average day, I work 9 hours at my job, come home, start dinner, run errands, and spend quality time with my son. It is hard to find time for studying and course work. The thing that it is not just the time constraints that get me. My environment does not help in any way. It’s dimly lit and has a loud surrounding. This makes it a little hard to concentrate. If I had a bad day at work then I probably won’t be in the right mood to study. Over all, both articles were helpful in understanding the dilemmas that an adult learner faces. Institutions of higher learning have a grasp on how to cater to these individuals. Although each person is different, instituting the best practices works well for adult learners. For despite the diversity of the Caribbean people and culture that have produced a multitude of cuisines, there is an undeniable common thread, tractable through history, land, sea and sun. The local cuisine will provide the backbone to both the classic and unexpected Caribbean experience. Taste seven year old rum from Cuba as the sun sinks into the ocean or French style pastries for breakfast in Martinique or Jerk (meat marinated with various spices) in a small Jamaican town, and also hearing the music in Dominican meringue to the steely Trinidad Calypso. It all comes together to create the Caribbean scenario, one that lingers in your mind and taste buds after you have left. The Arawaks were the first to settle in the Caribbean. First venturing to Guyana, and Venezuela, then they made their way to Trinidad, Bahamas, Jamaica, and Cuba. The Caribs followed and waged war on the Arawaks and then Europeans came and enslaved them. This gave us Caribbean people a combination of foods and culture. The Arawaks and Caribs had a taste for such animals as turtles, iguanas, alligators, and frogs. They liked turtle and iguana eggs also. The Europeans lad a taste for guinea pigs, rabbits, agouti (a rat like creature) The Amerindians (Arawaks and Caribs) dried and preserved their food by cooking it on a barbacot (a wooden framework over a pit of coals) The Spanish adopted this technique and barbacoa today known as barbeque grill. It is important to note that all the Caribbean Islands owe at least some of their culinary heritage to Africa because Europe imported African slaves to the Caribbean. Over the years, each island has developed its own cultural identity and today Jamaican point to ackee and salt fish and reggae for their cultural reference point while the Trini looks to roti and Carnival for theirs. Like also the Caribbean always make space fro starchy side-dishes. However, there is less emphasis on root vegetables and tubers. In their place will be a large dish of macaroni and cheese. This is not, it must be stated, the same sort of macaroni and cheese that comes from a box with the foil lined packet of powdered cheese product. This is the real thing; baked in the oven and packed so tight it can be cut into slabs and served lasagna style. Among the islands, Jamaica deserves special attention. Indeed of all the Caribbean countries it is Jamaica that a truly national cuisine has developed. When you get to Jamaica, it only takes a trip away from the tourist drags to realize that Jamaicans love to eat.
